What the platforms charge in Canadian dollars

Two of the platforms most Canadian associations look at, Wild Apricot and Veldun, now publish Canadian prices and charge in Canadian dollars. Wild Apricot's billing policy, in force from October 6, 2026, quotes and charges Canadian accounts in CAD and accepts pre-authorized debit from a Canadian bank. Its pricing page still says "All prices in USD" to visitors outside Canada, so a board comparing from a US search result can see the wrong currency.

Both price by the number of people on file. Wild Apricot counts every contact, including event registrants who never joined. Veldun counts billable contacts, and newsletter-only subscribers are free up to 3 times your member count. Veldun's larger plans are Professional at CA$279 for up to 1,000 contacts and Enterprise from CA$419 a month.

Two Canadian-built platforms publish a starting price in CAD:

  • Members Village starts at CA$245 a month with CA$2,500 one-time onboarding for its Village Builder tier, which includes one administrator. City Builder starts at CA$395 a month with CA$5,500 or more onboarding. Its pricing page says the software is "hosted in Canada, with Canadian data residency included".
  • Member365, based in Ottawa, starts at CA$299 a month plus a setup fee it does not publish, and offers Canadian data hosting as an option. Prices above the starting point are quoted.

Most US platforms publish only US prices. MembershipWorks, for example, lists $35 a month for up to 300 accounts without naming a currency. If that is US dollars it is about CA$49 at the Bank of Canada's rate of 1.4113 on November 6, 2026, and the bill moves with the exchange rate. Your card issuer may also add a foreign-transaction fee.

A year at 300 members and CA$150 dues

The table models one association: 300 members, each paying CA$150 once a year by card, so CA$45,000 of dues. It counts 300 contacts, which puts Veldun on Growth and Wild Apricot in its 500-contact band. Card fees are included, because the money comes out of the same dues.

At this size Veldun and Wild Apricot on monthly billing come out within a few dollars of each other. Wild Apricot is CA$240 cheaper for the year if you prepay and collect through CardPointe. It is CA$516 dearer if you collect through Stripe.

Card fees: Stripe and CardPointe

Card processing is the second-largest cost after the subscription, and it grows with your dues.

  • Stripe Canada charges 2.9% + CA$0.30 for a domestic card, plus 0.8% for an international card and 2% if a currency conversion is needed. Pre-authorized debit from a bank account costs 1% + CA$0.40. Veldun collects through the association's own Stripe account and adds nothing on top.
  • CardPointe by Fiserv is the processor Wild Apricot offers Canadian organizations, at 2.9% + CA$0.30 a card (3.5% + CA$0.30 for American Express). It is the way a Canadian Wild Apricot account avoids the fee below.

20%

What Wild Apricot adds to a Canadian account's plan price when it collects through Stripe, PayPal or Authorize.Net: about CA$504 a year on the 500-contact plan. Using CardPointe avoids it.

Event tickets and donations

Many associations pay a second and third platform for events and giving. Those fees are a share of what you collect, so they belong in the same budget.

Tickets. Eventbrite's fee for an organizer paid out in Canada is a service fee of 3.5% + CA$1.29 per ticket, plus 2.9% of the order for payment processing. On 100 tickets at CA$50, the service fee is CA$3.04 a ticket, CA$304 in all, and processing adds at least CA$145. By default the buyer pays these on top of the ticket price, which raises what your members see at checkout. Sold through Veldun, the same tickets cost the Stripe fee alone, CA$1.75 a ticket or CA$175 in all.

Donations. Two Canadian services are built for giving, and their rules differ:

  • CanadaHelps charges 3.75% on its customizable donation forms, card costs included, with no monthly fee. It accepts donations only for registered charities and other qualified donees, so a not-for-profit association without charity status cannot use it. On CA$10,000 of gifts the fee is CA$375.
  • Zeffy charges the organization nothing, and is funded by optional tips that donors are asked to add. Canadian not-for-profits can use it without a charity number; issuing official tax receipts needs one.

GST/HST on top

None of the prices above include sales tax. Wild Apricot's billing policy adds HST for Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, and GST plus PST or QST elsewhere. HST is 13% in Ontario, 14% in Nova Scotia and 15% in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island. GST is 5% in the other provinces and territories. Whether a vendor outside Canada charges it depends on whether it is registered with the Canada Revenue Agency, so ask before you compare totals. Under the CRA's simplified regime for sellers outside Canada, a customer that gives its own GST/HST registration number is not charged it.

When another option is cheaper

Veldun is not the cheapest choice for every Canadian association, and a board should know where it loses.

  • Under 250 contacts, Wild Apricot costs less. Its 250-contact band is CA$110 a month against Veldun's CA$139, a gap of CA$29 a month before any prepay discount.
  • At 300 members, prepaid Wild Apricot on CardPointe costs less. CA$3,663 for the year against Veldun's CA$3,903. Prepaying is final, so price the next year's growth before committing.
  • A small US tool costs less if exchange rates do not worry you. MembershipWorks at about CA$1,988 for the year, card fees included, is about half of either. You give up a Canadian price, and the bill moves with the exchange rate.
  • If the board wants a Canadian company, Veldun is not one. Members Village and Member365 are Canadian, and cost more at this size. Veldun is a US company. Canadian organizations' data is stored in Canada, on Amazon Web Services in Montreal. Our Canada page lists what still happens outside Canada.
  • For donations alone, Zeffy is cheapest for the organization. It charges nothing; donors are asked for a tip.

Where Veldun comes out ahead at this size is collecting through Stripe without a surcharge, ticket sales with no per-ticket fee, and records kept in Montreal.

Working out your own number

  1. Count what each platform bills for. Wild Apricot counts every contact. Veldun counts billable contacts. Check whether your event registrants and newsletter readers push you into the next band.
  2. Read the Canadian price. If a vendor shows only US dollars, convert at today's rate and assume it will move.
  3. Add card fees on a year of dues. 2.9% + CA$0.30 on Stripe Canada or CardPointe, plus any platform share.
  4. Add the fees off the pricing page. Onboarding, setup, a surcharge for using your own processor, and ticketing and donation fees.
  5. Add GST/HST for your province, and compare the totals over a full year.
